Uncertainty  is the headline and the days of working until retirement with a company are over. It has been reported that the average American worker will work for more than 12 companies in his/her career. I have personally felt the sting of a layoff, not once but twice in the past two years. In both situations I was a top producer and performer but my contribution and standard of excellence had little with my longevity. I was simply a number and when global economic forces seize control of our economy, we are all at risk.

It got me thinking of how I can control my own future. I did everything I thought was correct. I went to school and received a great education and went on to earn an MBA in graduate school. I was dedicated to my employer. I raised a great family. While family and school were in my control, unfortunately, employment was not.

That is when I decided to take a leap of faith and work for myself. It is the only thing that I can control. I wanted to become part of the fabric that is the American Dream!
